County Will Receive $509,194 from CARES Act CDBG Funding

Cumberland County will receive supplemental Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding made possible through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES Act) in the amount of $509,194.

“This additional funding will allow us to make a greater impact by expanding access to public and human services and assisting businesses through job creation and retention for low to moderate income persons. As an entitlement jurisdiction designated by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Cumberland County receives annual allocations made possible through the CDBG and Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds. 

Cumberland County will also receive $865,583 in CDBG funds and $398,574 in HOME funds for the upcoming program year July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021. CDBG funds increased $28,926 and HOME funds increased $33,824 from the 2019-2020 program year.

These funds will be made available to eligible residents, public and private nonprofit agencies, local units of government, and businesses with the goal of:

  • Expanding the inventory of affordable housing for low- and moderate- income persons and families in Cumberland County;
  • Improving the availability of housing and services for homeless persons and those at-risk of becoming homeless;
  • Improving services and opportunities for persons with special needs, including those who are disabled;
  • Improving access to public/human services, public facilities, and infrastructure; and
  • Increasing and promoting economic development opportunities of low- and moderate-income residents of Cumberland County through job creation, retention, and job training.
