How does COVID-19 have anything to do with getting rid of garbage?
Throughout this pandemic, government bodies, schools, agencies and private businesses have teamed up to find creative ways to avoid large gatherings of people and promote social distancing, whether by staff or the general public. We are focusing on protecting citizens from congregating and keeping solid waste staff healthy in order to avoid a reduction in our workforce.

Our solid waste sites have always generated steady flows of traffic; however, traffic has increased exponentially as a result of the domino effect caused by COVID-19 and health advisories. Citizens and their school-age children are home, cleaning out garages and generating more waste.

We are focused on maintaining your essential services like recycling and garbage, as stated in the order issued by Gov. Roy Cooper. Truck drivers are hauling more residential trash than normal during this pandemic. The time needed to transport and switch out boxes to pick up additional waste has been impacted by this. We are operating at full capacity with our trucking and containers at sites, and we are determined to continue serving you through all of this.

If you are a City of Fayetteville resident and have questions about trash pick-up, new trash containers, any concerns about trash or recycling, please call City of Fayetteville Environmental Services at 910-433-1329.
