Emergency Management Cautions Residents About Storm

Oct 11, 2018

Cumberland County activated its Emergency Operations Center at 8 a.m. today as officials monitor Tropical Storm Michael and the potential impacts from dangerous squall-like periods of rain and wind.

Tracy Jackson, Assistant County Manager and Interim Emergency Services Director, is advising residents to stay off roads and inside until the storm passes. Winds are a big concern and the potential for downed trees falling on power lines. If residents are on the roads, they should obey all road barricades, avoid downed wires and not drive through standing water.

Only call 9-1-1 if you need immediate, emergency assistance. Residents are encouraged to monitor local media, visit the County’s website at and follow the County on social media sites for the latest information on the tropical storm.
