County Has 173 Cases, County Offices Closed Friday

Apr 23, 2020

The Department of Public Health reports there are 173 positive COVID-19 cases involving Cumberland County residents, an increase of 19 from Wednesday.

County Offices Closed Friday
To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, County departments will be closed on Friday, April 24. This closing includes the Department of Public Health. The public health epidemiology nursing team will be monitoring the on-call line regarding COVID-19 cases.

The Register of Deeds Office will be available to assist customers by phone or email on Friday.

The Ann Street and Wilkes Road Landfills will be open until 3 p.m. on Friday. Both will be closed on Saturday. Container sites will be open for their normal hours on Friday and will close at noon on Saturday.

COVID-19 Testing
The Health Department conducts testing by appointment only and prioritizes testing on a case-by-case basis for those who are symptomatic and meet the following criteria. Please call in advance for assessment and screening: 910-433-3655 or 910-433-3645.

  • Hospitalized patients
  • Healthcare workers or first responders (e.g., EMS, law enforcement, fire department)
  • Patients who live in or have regular contact with a high-risk setting (e.g. long-term care facility, homeless shelter, correctional facility, migrant farm worker camp)
  • Persons who are at higher risk of severe illness and for whom a clinician has determined that results would inform clinical management.

WIC Services
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has waived the physical presence requirement for those receiving Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services has authorized a remote/automatic issuance that began April 13 and will continue through May 4 for all eligible WIC participants.

“The remote and automatic issuance for current WIC participants helps to protect WIC clients and allows Health Department staff to focus on new applicants and higher risk participants who need assistance with items other than benefit issuance,” said Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green.

Current WIC participants are encouraged to check the WIC app (Bnft®) or login to www.mybnft.com. Individuals can call the Health Department at 910-433-3730 during business hours Monday through Thursday if they have questions or need a replacement card. WIC locations will be closed on Friday.

The County’s COVID-19 Dashboard now includes a daily cumulative chart of cases. The dashboard is posted on the County’s website at co.cumberland.nc.us/COVID19 and on the Cumberland County Coronavirus Response page.
