COVID-19 Update: County Reports 6th Death

The Cumberland County Department of Public Health reports that a sixth county resident has died from complications associated with COVID-19.

The individual, who had underlying medical conditions, died April 16 at Womack Army Medical Center and was in their 50s. To protect the family’s privacy, no further information about the case will be released.

“This is heartbreaking. Our sympathies go out to the family and friends,” said Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green. “Our sadness is shared by everyone working to slow the spread of this virus in our community.”

The death of another person in their 50s reported on Thursday, April 16, by the Department of Public Health was also affiliated with Fort Bragg.

There are 98 positive cases in Cumberland County. The average age of COVID-19 patients is 49 and 52% are males. The racial breakdown is 53% black, 24% white, 4% Hispanic and 19% unknown. The County has created a COVID-19 Dashboard that includes a zip code map, as well as gender and racial information based on available data.  The dashboard is posted on the County’s website at co.cumberland.nc.us/COVID19 and on the Cumberland County Coronavirus Response page.
