Shelter Pet ‘Baby Shower’ Supply Drive April 13

Apr 08, 2019

The Friends of Cumberland County Shelter Animals non-profit and volunteer organization will hold its annual Baby Shower event on Saturday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Animal Shelter, located at 4704 Corporation Drive. This event helps raise supplies for the upcoming spring puppy and kitten season.

“A female cat can produce up to 12 kittens per year, and if none of those kittens get spayed, there could potentially be 420,000 kittens in seven years,” said Elaine Smith, Cumberland County Animal Control Director. “That’s why it’s so important to spay or neuter your cats. The shelter takes in about 5,000 cats per year with the majority being kittens in the spring.”

The supply drive wish list includes kitten formula, canned kitten and puppy food, blankets, toys, heated beds, cat litter and litter boxes.

If you can’t attend the event, donations are always welcome during Animal Control’s regular hours Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m.
