Aug 07, 2018

The Cumberland County Department of Public Health will hold its annual Food Safety Forum Aug. 29 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the third-floor auditorium of the Public Health Center located at 1235 Ramsey St. This year’s forum will focus on food recalls.

The forum is open to the public and any organization or business in the county that has questions about food recalls. Interested participants must register for the forum no later than Aug. 24 by calling 910-433-3828 or emailing Program Standards Coordinator, Rebecca Coates at

Daniel Gaines and Sean Silva from the North Carolina Department of Agriculture will present information about the regulatory process involving food recalls as well as the roles played by industry and consumers. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer session and an opportunity for attendees to network.

The Food Safety Forum was established in 2014 as part of an enhancement of the County Environmental Health Division’s Regulatory Retail Food Program through its participation in the Food and Drug Administration Retail Program Standards.

The annual forums provide consumers and industry personnel an opportunity to communicate, collaborate and receive information about food safety, food safety strategies and interventions to control risk factors. It is also an opportunity to engage in community and education outreach efforts to reduce risk factors associated with foodborne illness.
