Cumberland County Veterans Services Ranks No. 1 In Claims Distribution

FAYETTEVILLE – Cumberland County Veterans Services has achieved the No. 1 ranking in the state for Geographic Distribution of Veterans Affairs Expenditures for fiscal year 2016. The North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs notified the County’s Veterans Services office in a letter.


Cumberland County ranked first in the state with VA expenditures of $823,281,000. According to the VA, Cumberland County has 58,000 veterans, the largest in the state.


Wake County, with 52,400 veterans, had $391 million in VA expenditures and Mecklenburg County, with 50,000 veterans, had $395 million.


In the letter to Cumberland County Veterans Services, NCDMVA Regional Manager Todd Stockley said, “The news of Cumberland County Veterans Services achieving this prestigious position does not come as any surprise. Having known your office and the amount of hard work you and your staff provide to the veterans of Cumberland County every day, year in and year out, deserves recognition. As always, your office has thrived to be the best and once again, you have proven it.”


Veterans Services Director Eric Redrick and his staff were honored by the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners this morning during the commissioners’ regular meeting. Members of the Sergeants Major Association were also on hand and presented certificates of excellence and the “Eagle of Triumph” trophy to Cumberland County Veterans Services. Also, Gerry Fountain of the US Army Wounded Warrior Program presented certificates of appreciation to each employee of Veterans Services.


“The Veterans Services staff works hard and we are being recognized for the services we provide to our veterans,” Redrick said. “To receive acknowledgement from the state is a great tribute to this office.”
