Health Department Observes Women, Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

Mar 06, 2019

The Cumberland County Department of Public Health is participating in a National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day event on March 9, from 1 to 5 p.m., at Smith Recreation Center, 1520 Slater Ave., Fayetteville.

Each year on March 10 national organizations come together to show support for women and girls living with HIV and AIDS. National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day sheds light on the impact of living with HIV and AIDS and educates and empowers women and girls to protect themselves so they can lead a physically and mentally healthy life.

The event will feature keynote speaker Stephanie Robinson Alexander, an attorney who will discuss “Women, HIV and the Law.” There will be a screening of the movie, “Reflections,” which highlights three high school girls and their risks of contracting HIV/AIDS. Additionally, the 2018 Humanitarians will be recognized for their work in the field of HIV. Local exhibitors will also be available to share resources and information about HIV/AIDS.
