Solid Waste Update on Hours, Fees

Oct 05, 2018

The Wilkes Road Landfill is returning to operating six days a week and will be closed on Sunday, Oct. 6. The facility had been open seven days a week following Hurricane Florence to accept the large volume of vegetative storm debris. Hours are now Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Ann Street landfill is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Container sites throughout the county are operating on normal schedules.

The Solid Waste Department is waiving fees for residential customers for vegetative and construction and demolition debris related to Hurricane Florence through Oct. 13. This does not apply to commercial haulers.

Residents in the unincorporated areas are reminded that they may place debris along the right of way of state- maintained roads for pick up by the County’s debris removal contractor. Residents can call the Cumberland County Debris Reporting automated phone system at 910-438-4044. When calling, they should clearly state their name, address, phone number and the type of debris.
