Career Center Collects Luggage, Toiletry Items for Foster Youth

The Cumberland County Workforce Development Board and NCWorks Career Center are collecting luggage and toiletry items for youth in foster care as part of a state-wide workforce service project.

The project will collect new or gently-used luggage pieces and fill them with toiletries for youth in foster care who may not have a way to carry their personal possessions as they transition from one home to another. 

Anyone who would like to donate can drop off items at the Cumberland County NCWorks Career Center at 414 Ray Avenue in Fayetteville. Items will be collected until June 30. In addition to luggage, the following items are needed:

  • Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Tooth brushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Floss
  • Bar Soap/Liquid Soap
  • Deodorant
  • Tissues/Kleenex
  • Hotel size sewing kit
  • Body Powder
  • Disposable Shaving Razors
  • Shaving Cream
  • After-shave
  • Q-tips
  • Body Lotion
  • Mouthwash
  • Make-up remover


  • Band-Aids
  • Combs/Hairbrushes
  • Sunscreen
  • Toiletry Bags
  • Lip Balm/Vaseline
  • Feminine Hygiene Products
  • Nail Clippers
  • Tweezers


Workforce Development Boards and NCWorks Career Centers throughout the state, along with the North Carolina Division of Workforce Solutions, are partnering with the non-profit organization SaySo, which stands for Strong Able Youth Speaking Out, for the project. After items are collected and packed in the luggage, SaySo volunteers will pick up the items and distribute them throughout the state.
