Cumberland County Cooperative Extension 4-H Summer Adventures Activities

Cumberland County Cooperative Extension 4-H Youth Development program is holding Summer Adventure summer program for ages 5 – 19 in June, July and August. Participants must have a current 4-H membership enrollment packet completed and on file. Enrollment packets are readily available online at cumberland.ces.ncsu.edu or in the Cooperative Extension office, located in the Agriculture Center, 301 E. Mountain Dr., Fayetteville.

 

Below are just a few of the upcoming events in June:

 

Cloverbud Arts and Crafts Day, June 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cloverbuds, ages 5 to 8, will use their creativity for arts and crafts activities. They will learn about different types of art and discover the history behind some of their favorite crafts. The cost is $15 and registration is due by June 11.

 

What’s the Buzz, June 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., will be for youth ages 5 years and up to learn about honeybees. Participants will build a bee hotel and sample tasty treats made from honey. The cost is $15 per child and registration is due by June 13.

 

The Younger Aged Junior Master Gardener Program is open to children ages 6 to 8 and will be held June 25 – 29, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Cape Fear Botanical Garden. Youth will learn the importance and uses of plants, plant classification, parts, needs, growth, processes and propagation. Extension Master Gardeners will team with the Urban Horticulture agent to bring this hands-on learning opportunity that will focus on nature and science. The cost is $50 per child.

 

The Leadership Boot Camp will be held June 26 and 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The camp is for ages 13 and up and will help participants learn about leadership through extemporaneous speaking, Life Skill A Thon competition and college preparation workshops. The cost is $25 and registration is due by June 19.
