Animal Shelter Teams Up with Running Club for ‘Lucky Dog’ 3K

Mar 15, 2018

The Fayetteville Running Club is hosting a “Lucky Dog” 3K run on March 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in partnership with the Cumberland County Animal Control Shelter. The event will be held at the Clark Park entrance to the Cape Fear River Trail at 631 Sherman Dr.

Adoptable shelter dogs will be paired with club-affiliated runners at the event. Depending on the dog’s age and ability, participants will walk, jog or run the 1.8-mile route. There will be a limited number of shelter dogs available and not all runners will be paired with a dog.

Members of the public are invited to participate in the run, meet the adoptable dogs and donate items to the shelter. Runners may also bring their own dog to participate in the run. All dogs must be licensed, vaccinated against rabies, leashed, must be friendly and the owner must maintain control of their dog at all times.

“When the dog’s leave the shelter and are exposed to exercise and people, they become completely different animals,” said Jennifer Hutchinson-Tracy, shelter manager. “It’s a great way for people to experience the true personalities of these dogs and to see what great pets they can be.”

Anyone at the event who meets a dog they would like to adopt, can do so at the Animal Shelter after the event. Pet Adoption Hours are Saturday from 1 – 5 p.m. and Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Donations for the shelter animals will also be accepted at the event and may include pet food, durable toys, blankets, newspapers and animal-related supplies.
