Low Income Energy Assistance Available For Heating Costs

Jan 11, 2018

FAYETTEVILLE The Salvation Army is accepting applications for all eligible households for the North Carolina Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) to help qualified families with their heating costs. Citizens may apply 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Salvation Army office at 310 Dick St.

The federally-funded program provides a one-time vendor payment directly to the utility company to help eligible households pay their heating bills during cold-weather months. Household income must not exceed 130 percent of the poverty level. All households must apply for LIEAP; there are no automatic approvals.

Applications will be accepted through March 31, or until funds are exhausted.

The Salvation Army manages the program for the Department of Social Services and all applications must go to the Salvation Army’s office at 310 Dick Street. For more information, contact the DSS LIEAP message line at 910-677-2821 or the Salvation Army at 910-483-8119.

Members of the public are reminded the Salvation Army office at 1047 Southern Ave., closed last year and all applications should go to the Dick Street office to apply for LIEAP.
